Karen Holden graduated from LSU with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1989 and begin her career with Exxon in New Orleans. In 1995, she and her husband, Derrik, moved to Baton Rouge to transition into her consulting career and start their family. They have two sons. Patrick recently graduated from LSU in Chemical Engineering and Benjamin is entering his junior year at LSU in Ag Business.

Karen joined Providence in 2000, and currently serves as CEO. Providence, an employee-owned company with over 200 employees, provides engineering, environmental, and disaster recovery services. Headquartered in Baton Rouge, Providence also has offices in Houma, Kenner, Houston, and Austin. Notable projects include serving as Project Manager for all environmental activities necessary to construct the Shintech Plaquemine Plant, an investment in our community exceeding $2 billion, and conducting NEPA studies for sections of Interstate 49 and Interstate 10.

Karen is an active member of the Louisiana Engineering Society (LES), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Women in Transportation (WTS). She also served as past chair of ASCE’s-Transportation and Development Institute. During her tenure as chair, a scholarship program was started, and multiple professional development seminars were held throughout Louisiana. In recognition of her service, she received the Louisiana Section ASCE President’s Medal for Service to the Civil Engineering Profession. In 2018, Karen was awarded the A.B. Patterson Medal for an Engineer in Management by the Louisiana Engineering Society. Karen is a registered Environmental Engineer in Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia, and was recognized as a 2017 Influential Woman in Business through the Baton Rouge Business Report. Karen currently serves as an active board member for the Big Buddy Program in Baton Rouge.
